Abstract
To the Editor: Halsey et al. (August 29 issue) present an in-depth view of measles among children in urban Haiti.* From their serologic survey and subsequent vaccination trial they conclude that the greatest number of cases of measles could be prevented by vaccinating children after the age of eight months. It is unclear how this conclusion was reached. One approach would be to multiply the age-specific success rate for the vaccine by the number of susceptible persons remaining in the community at each month of age. If measles infection is inevitable in the unvaccinated, this method will provide the expected . . .
