Abstract
A new structure is proposed for multimode interference photonic switches which have partial index-modulation regions to obtain control of the power switching between multiple output ports. The switching characteristics for a 3 × 3 configuration are analysed by the wide-angle finite-difference beam propagation method. This analysis confirms that complete switching can be obtained with low crosstalk levels of ~23 dB.Keywords
