Abstract
Because of great improvements in survival and reduction in amputations in patients with osteosarcoma, investigators in the various fields involved in diagnosis and care of these patients are making greater efforts to contribute to better knowledge of the disease and the effects of treatment. Recent developments include basic studies on genetic abnormalities, evaluation of the role of modern imaging in predicting chemo-induced tumor necrosis and in defining tumor margins, and research into new agents, with new combinations and schedules for increasing prognosis and reducing side effects. Major efforts are also being made by surgeons in the difficult field of reconstruction after bone resections. Keywords
