Abstract
A target-field approach is employed to determine solenoidal current distributions yielding magnetic fields of prescribed homogeneity with minimum power dissipation in the resistive medium. The spatial variation of the magnetic field, and the corresponding current densities and power factors are calculated for (2p+2)th-order-error magnets with rho =1,2,3. The results are compared with more familiar current configurations. Keywords
