Effects of Autonomic Ganglionic Blocking Drugs on Cutaneous Axone Reflexes

Abstract
Tetraethylammonium chloride, hexamethonium bromide, diethyldiisopropylammonium chloride, 2-6 dimethyldiethyl piperidinium bromide, or l-benzyl_6, 7-dihydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolinium chloride, injected intradermally, inhibited axone reflex sweating produced by intra-dermal 1:50,000 nicotine. Several of these agents apparently potentiated nicotine piloerection. Of all the ganglionic blocking drugs tested, only tetraethylammonium exhibited an inhibitory effect on histamine flare, while the drugs as a class appeared to inhibit nicotine flare.
