Abstract
Comparative studies on longevity of adult ♀ Eretmapodites chrysogaster (Graham), Aedes (Finlaya) togoi (Skuse), and Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus (Theobald) mosquitoes showed that the latter outlived the others under all conditions of temperature and humidity. A high temperature of 32.2°C drastically reduced the life span in all species regardless of humidity, while cool temperatures (15.5° to 22.2°C) at low and high humidities enhanced survival. Low humidity (30% RH) was consistently detrimental to E. chrysogaster at all temperatures, but generally had little or no effect on the survival of A. togoi. and A. alhopictus. These species apparently possess a higher drgree of spiracular control and other mechanisms for regulating the inward and outward flow of body fluids. Keywords
