The shape of individual Barkhausen pulses

Abstract
Barkhausen pulses in single crystals of 3%Si‐Fe, with well defined slab‐like domains, were recorded on magnetic tape, digitally converted, and displayed by computer. Some of the pulses show a shape not previously reported, i.e., oscillations with a decreasing frequency and in general a decreasing amplitude each succeeding half cycle. The reproducibility of pulse shapes indicate that they are not pulse clusters. The observation of a negative portion of the pulse, ’’a negative Barkhausen pulse’’, has been reported1 but a detailed picture of pulse shape has not been shown. The negative portion of the pulse and the succeeding oscillations seem to indicate a single event and not the coupling of two or more events.
