Abstract
The combined physical and chemical evidence strongly indicates that there exist a series of thrombin compounds possessing the ability to clot solutions of fibrinogen. The members of the series differ from each other not only in size-shape relationships but also in their content of carbo- hydrate and tyrosine. Presumably all originate through manipulation of prothrombin. The physical and chemical studies summarized here lead to certain general conclusions regarding other characteristics of prothrombin (and, therefore, thrombin). Keywords
