Abstract
In this short review, we want to provide a guide for developing liquid membrane separations. We want to describe how these membranes function, how they can be made selective, and how they can effect fast separations. We don't intend to review the breadth of chemistry possible for liquid membranes, or to detail much of the mathematical development which supports our descriptions. Both chemistry and mathematics have been recently reviewed elsewhere 1, 2 What we want to give is an understandable primer on the design of liquid membrane separations. Keywords
