Abstract
JAMES Peter Warbasse eased his way out of a successful surgical practice during World War I. He had graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in 1889, and like that of many a contemporary medical graduate, his residency program included study abroad. At Göttingen, Germany, his preceptors were Orth in the infant science of pathology and the surgeon Koenig. While in Vienna, he worked for some months under Paltauf in pathology and under Billroth, the most widely known surgeon of the period.The years following his European training were busy for Warbasse.
