Abstract
We show that very deep gratings may yield either enhanced specular or enhanced antispecular diffracted intensities when the direction of incidence coincides with that of an order of the diffraction pattern. Alternatively, for other angles of incidence the diffracted intensities are either strong in the specular or are uniformly distributed between all orders. Calculations are made for several profiles, all showing similar characteristics, in particular, an oscillatory behavior of the intensities with the amplitude of the corrugation. Keywords
