Abstract
A mathematical model is described for the suction feeding of fish up to the moment that the gills are opened. The free moving body of the fish is allowed to accelerate when the volume of the mouth cavity is enlarged or when an external force which represents a propulsive action of the caudal fin, is exerted at the body. Some numerical results are given. Keywords
