AN UNUSUAL CASE OF KERATOMA SENILE

Abstract
The first thorough investigations into the subject of keratoma senile being of comparatively recent date, some addition to the knowledge of this disease is still highly desirable. Until recently only a few investigators (Dubreuilh,1Darier, Pusey and others) have distinguished between keratoma senile and verruca senilis. It was especially the investigations of Freudenthal2which rendered it possible to establish the fact that clinically and, more particularly, histologically a profound difference between the classic forms of the two conditions is actually demonstrable. It was demonstrated that, in contradistinction to verruca senilis, keratoma senile is to be regarded as precarcinomatous—a finding which has assigned much greater importance to this condition. It has also been shown, as a result of the systematic researches which Freudenthal's fundamental publication made possible, that keratoma senile and not verruca senilis is apt in a considerable percentage of cases3to degenerate into carcinoma,
