Abstract
The electronic polarizabilities of cations in alkali chalcogenides have been estimated by taking into account the effect of crystal potential as suggested by Ruffa. The anion polarizabilities and ionic radii have also been deduced with the help of the polarizability-radius-cube relation. The electronic polarizabilities of alkali and chalcogen ions calculated in the present paper agree well with the corresponding values obtained by an analysis of experimental refraction data. Keywords
