Preparation of PLZT Ceramics by Oxalate Method in Ethanol Solution

Abstract
PLZT powder was prepared by oxalate method in ethanol solution and its grain growth and electro-optic property were investigated. The coprecipitation in ethanol solution produced homogeneous PLZT oxalate having very fine particle size, which is usually much agglomerated. But washing by pure ethanol showed a high dispersion effect of the agglomerated powders due to the removal of water of crystallization, so that the crystalline structure was destroyed, resulting in the amorphous phase. The PLZT 9/65/35 powder thus obtained was hot-pressed after calcined. This sample which showed a good transparency was again heat-treated at 1200°C in air. Increases of both grain size which followed aparabolic growth law and electro-optic coefficient were observed with heat treatment time.
