Abstract
Reactions of Cu2+ aq with the aliphatic-free radicals ·CH2CO– 2, CH3[graphic omitted]HCO– 2, O– 2C[graphic omitted]HCH(OH)CO– 2, ·CCl3, [graphic omitted]H2CH2OH and ·CH2C(CH3)2OH in aqueous solutions were studied. In these reactions the formation of unstable intermediates absorbing in the u.v. range was observed. This absorption is attributed to compounds with copper–carbon σ bonds. The kinetics of formation and decomposition of these intermediates are reported and discussed. No intermediates were observed when Cu2+ aq reacts with ·CR1R2OH-free radicals. Cu+ aq is one of the final products in all systems studied. Keywords
