Abstract
The techniques of spectral analysis are used to probe some of the details of large-scale atmospheric turbulence at the 200-mb level. The following data at this level are presented and compared with previously available spectra at other levels: power spectra, of the zonal wind, of the meridional wind, and of the temperature; co-power spectra of the meridional wind with the zonal wind, and of the meridional wind with the temperature. It is also shown that it is feasible to achieve crude quantitative verification of that relationship between spectra at two levels which is indicated by the thermal wind equation.
