Abstract
The ongoing debate about how to describe and explain late adolescent moral development is highlighted most clearly in the contrast between the work of Kohlberg and Perry. This paper addresses this debate by comparing the narrative structure of Kohlberg’s and Perry’s respective theoretical accounts with the narrative structure of personal accounts 2 late adolescents gave when asked to describe their own moral development. Perry’s account more closely resembles the stories told by these late adolescents than does Kohlberg’s. The paper concludes with a discussion of the possible interpretations and implications of this correspondence with respect to these two alternative theories of late adolescent moral development. Keywords
