Abstract
The distribution of Cd and Zn in the estuary of the River Elbe was determined. The concentration and chemical forms of both metals in water and suspended matter were studied. The metal contents of sediments were also analyzed. The results showed a different behavior of Cd and Zn during estuarine mixing. The concentration of Cd increased in the dissolved phase of water samples; Zn decreased. The amounts of Cd in suspended matter and sediments decreased simultaneously to a greater extent than those of Zn. These processes seemed to be a function of salinity and were described as a mobilizaton of Cd in the estuary. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
