OBSERVATIONS ON THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC ARTHRITIS WITH VITAMIN D

Abstract
Our interest in vitamin D therapy was stimulated by C. I. Reed, Ph.D., assistant professor of physiology, University of Illinois College of Medicine, who observed improvement of symptoms in two patients with arthritis whom he had treated for hay fever with vitamin D concentrate. One of these patients was a man aged 46 and the other, a woman aged 47. The former had suffered with chronic atrophic arthritis for seven months and the latter had suffered with it for fifteen years in addition to hay fever. We have treated twenty cases of atrophic arthritis with daily doses of viosterol of from 150,000 to 250,000 U. S. P. X units of vitamin D.1Ten patients were men and ten were women.
