Abstract
A simplified experimental model of a compressor blade with “clapper” attachments is examined and the existence is established of optimum clamping loads across the clapper interfaces in order to minimize separately the displacement and stress responses. A theoretical prediction of the optimum conditions, assuming a linearized frictional force interaction dependent on the slip amplitude, is shown to compare favorably with the experimental results. For each response parameter, a simultaneous optimization of the clamping load and position for the clapper ring is carried out. It is found that the optimum positions differ by less than 10 percent from the value currently used in some design practice. Keywords
