Influence of Some Steroids in the Experimental Production of Amebic Hepatic Abscess

Abstract
Summary One hundred twenty guinea pigs were inoculated with Entamoeba histolytica or with a control inoculum which contained no viable amebae; some of them were normal untreated animals and others received progesterone, testosterone or hydrocortisone. The evidence obtained indicates that these steroids, especially progesterone, favor the production of amebic hepatic abscesses. There was no evident action of the steroids when added to the medium in which the inoculated amebae were grown.
