A SENSITIVE METHOD FOR DETERMINING REFRACTIVE INDICES

Abstract
A combination of Michelson interferometer and spectroscope is described which has proved useful in giving accurate values of the refractive indices of vapors, especially near absorption lines. The method involves measurements, easily made, of wave lengths of fringes seen in the spectroscope. Photographs of the fringes are given. The combination also provides an interesting method for putting along a spectrum a natural scale of frequencies, provided by these fringes.
