Abstract
When cut into segments, the fronds of Petroglossum nicaeense (Phyllophoraceae) give rise to adventitious buds which are produced: distally by the proliferating activity of the cortex; proximally by a process of regeneration. The proliferating activity gives rise to the primordia of erect fronds while the creeping axes are formed from the regenerated buds. These facts clearly indicate a polarisation in the development of the alga and suggest that correlative mechanisms are operative in this species. Keywords
