Axion and Dilaton Emissivity from Nascent Neutron Stars

Abstract
In order to derive reliable bounds on axion and dilaton parameters from the neutrino burst of SN1987A one needs to precisely evaluate emissivities for the nucleon bremsstrahlung process; n+nn+n+a(D). This is done in the non-degenerate, intermediate temperature range relevant to physical conditions at the time of burst emission, using a precise matrix element of this process and the result is compared with previous calculations. A possible window for the hadronic axion is also discussed in some detail.
