Abstract
The reduction reactions of platinum(IV) complexes, trans-[Pt(PEt3)2X4], to platinum(II) by [Pt diars2](NO3)2 in the presence of sodium chloride, sodium bromide, or sodium iodide in methanol have been investigated (diars =o-phenylenebisdimethylarsine, X = Cl or Br). The kinetic behaviour of these reactions is consistent with a mechanism involving an oxidation–reduction process between the platinum(II) five-co-ordinate complex [Pt diars2Y]+(Y = Cl, Br, I) and the starting platinum(IV) complex. Keywords
