Abstract
Development of the erythrocytic stages of Haemogregarina delagei Laveran and Mesnil was followed in blood smears prepared from four thorny skates, Raja radiata, held at 7 °C. Slender trophozoites located at the poles of erythrocytes developed into schizonts. Asexual division terminated with the production of 6–10 merozoites (av. 8). Thicker trophozoites, appearing later and lying lateral to the nuclei of parasitized erythrocytes developed into gametocytes. Higher incidences of H. delagei were recorded in thorny skates collected at 7° and 14 °C than at 0 °C.
