Comparative Inhibitory Effect of Penicillin and Streptomycin Upon the Action of Staphylocoagulase.

Abstract
The comparative inhibitory effects of penicillin and streptomycin on the coagulase activity of 18 strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci were studied by the test-take incubation method using varying concs. of the 2 antibiotics, with citrated human plasma as the substrate. In low cones. (0.25 mg./ml.) streptomycin has a markedly greater inhibitory effect than penicillin, even in the presence of viable cells.
