Abstract
The common carotid artery was ligated in 30 patients suffering from aneurisms of the circle of Willis, vascular malformations and arterio-venous fistulas. There was no recurrence of bleeding among the malformation cases but one developed hemiparesis and two continued to have convulsions. There was one death in the aneurism group after ligation and two following craniotomy. Bleeding did not recur. One patient developed hemiplegia with aphasia. This method of treatment compares favorably with other methods. Keywords
