Abstract
THERE is profit, from time to time, in looking objectively at time-honored procedures in medical care. For the most part the accumulation of traditional beliefs and methods is an additive process by which the best of each period becomes an acknowledged part of the professional armamentarium. However, what has been defined in the past must be accepted critically and with constant re-evaluation.Few areas of medical service are supported by more lengthy tradition than maternal and child care.
