Abstract
DURING the past decade, a number of repetitive disorders of unknown cause were assembled tentatively as a syndrome named periodic disease.1 Episodes last a few hours or days and recur in cycles often with striking regularity in seven or multiples of seven days. The disorders occur in both sexes and in all races, begin or end at any age, have remissions, have a hereditary tendency and are not significantly influenced by therapy.
