Abstract
Cytotoxic HL-A antisera of various specificities were examined on the AutoAnalyzer against red blood cells (RBC) from HL-A-typed donors. HL-A associated hemagglutinins [HA] of different specificities were demonstrated. In cytotoxic anti-HL-A-A9 and anti-HL-A-A10, as well as in anti-HL-A-B12, anti-HL-A-Bw15 and anti-HLA-B17 sera, HA of apparently corresponding specificities were found. Several HL-A antigens may be present on RBC, but they are demonstrable only on RBC from a limited number of donors who possess the corresponding antigens on their white cells. Some antigens, like HL-A-A28 and HL-A-B7, are relatively strong RBC antigens; others, like HL-A-B12 or HL-A-Bw15 seem to be much weaker. In cytotoxic anti-HL-A-A1 and anti-HL-A-B13 sera, no corresponding HA were demonstrated. HA of anti-HL-A-B7 specificity were present in 2 cytotoxic anti HL-A-A1 and 3 anti-HL-A-B13 sera. No cytotoxic anti-HL-A-B7 was found in these sera. Cross-reacting antibodies also seem to be frequent among HL-A associated HA.
