Abstract
Despite Australia's officially acknowledged multicultural society, its health care system is monocultural; Anglo-Celtic and non-English-speaking background (NESB) clients are disadvantaged in terms of access and quality of service. To address this problem, current services need to be developed in a way that enables the system to be accessible and sensitive to the needs of NESB clients. One of the factors essential to the achievement of this goal is the education of psychiatric nurses. This article looks at the multicultural society, government policy and initiatives, and the education of psychiatric nurses to provide care to NESB clients in Australia.
