The Gouty Toe-A Multifactorial Condition

Abstract
Factors so far identified include: hyperuricemia; elevated serum uronic acid levels; physical properties of uric acid solutions, which are responsible for crystal localization in areas of predilection; and chemical (enzymatic) changes in articular tissues affecting the matrix in which asymptomatic urate deposits lie, resulting in their release into joint space.
