Abstract
A radioactive fibre tracer technique has been used to investigate the configuration and longitudinal strain of single fibres in worsted yarns widely varying in count and twist. In addition, by making single fibres radioactive in segments, the distribution of strain along single fibres has been estimated. The technique has also bren employed to study the configuration of single fibres in condensed woollen slivers and the change in state brought about by ring and mule spinning. The phenomenon of fibre migration is also discussed in the light of the results presented in the paper.
