Abstract
4-O-Benzyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene-L-threose (1), a new building block for the synthesis of carbohydrates was prepared. The stereoselective addition of various nucleophiles to 1 afforded useful intermediates toward L-sugar derivatives. Keywords
