Calculation of the Frequencies and Widths of Phonons in Cu0.97Au0.03

Abstract
We have calculated the phonon frequencies and widths in the random alloy Cu0.97Au0.03, using low concentration defect theory and have compared our results with experimental observation. It was found essential to the description of the alloy system to include the effects of volume change on alloying. Morse potentials have been used to attempt to describe these effects as well as to estimate the force constant changes associated with the gold impurities.
