Abstract
The monarch butterflyDanaus plexippussequesters cardiac gylcosides from northern species ofAsclepiasformerly reported to lack these noxious compounds. Thus, a new explanation must be sought as to why the monarchs reared on these northern asclepiads are palatable to avian predators.Keywords
