Abstract
To the Editor: Many cases of neutropenia in immunocompetent subjects are due to circulating autoantibodies that are directed against specific neutrophil antigens.1 Although these patients usually respond to treatment with steroids, the disease frequently relapses when steroids are tapered. A similar situation exists in idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Imbach et al.2 recently reported the therapeutic effect of high-dose gamma globulin therapy in children with this disease.
