Abstract
Thromboembolic disease constitutes an important proportion of acute hospital admissions with an estimated 2.5% of hospital inpatients suffering pulmonary embolism (Sion & Lopez-Majano, 1978). This report describes an unusual venous abnormality not detectable clinically, but associated with fatal thromboembolism. In January 1981 a 59-year-old Caucasian man began to notice chest tightness on mild exertion. Two weeks later he experienced daily episodes of severe breathlessness, usually on exertion. Keywords
