Pressure Measurements in Perfused Segments of Small Blood Vessels.

Abstract
In this technic the perfused vascular specimen is tied between cannulae and placed within a closed fluid-filled chamber to which is attached an electrical pressure transducer of very small displacement. Substances to be tested are injected into the perfusion line. An increase of vascular tone under these circumstances pro-duces no change in diam. of the vessel, but does produce a "negative" pressure in the surrounding chamber. For arterial specimens from dog''s mesentery pressure responses of from 200 to 300 mm. Hg are obtained with epinephrine at an intra-vascular concn. of 1.0 [mu]g./ml. The threshold is approx. 0.04 [mu] g./ml., and the latent period approx. 3-4 sec.
