Commentary: Evidence based information for women is important

Abstract
The “Informed Choice” leaflets produced by the Midwives' Information and Resource Service and the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination are of fundamental importance. They set out to provide users of the health service—in this case pregnant women—with the best evidence available on the effectiveness of different aspects of maternity care, in an accessible format and language. Significantly, the leaflets encourage women to ask questions about what procedures are for and why they are needed. The case study by S Oliver and colleagues is important because it examines how the leaflet on ultrasound screening was received and responded to by women, ultrasonographers, and midwives.
