Abstract
A nucleic acid probe was made for the detection of hop stunt viroid (HSV). The HSV probe was used in the screening of grapevine cultivars and rootstocks from Victoria and South Australia for the presence of HSV by northern blot analysis. HSV was detected in all samples tested except seedlings and vines derived from fragmented shoot apex culture. Cultivars containing HSV are grown in some of the hop-growing regions of Australia raising the possibility of HSV transmission from grapevines to hops. Keywords
