Abstract
A NUMBER of environmental factors and differences in individual immune responses have been postulated for the development of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). The appearance of the disease in only one of identical twins provided an opportunity to examine certain variables possibly involved in the production of this disease.Case Report and Special InvestigationsA 14-year-old girl (Twin 1, NIH 08–68–50) was admitted to the hospital because of progressive mental deterioration and myoclonus for 7 months. She has an identical twin (Twin 2, NIH 08–68–65). In both twins, gestation, delivery, attainment of developmental milestones, and reaction to childhood immunizations had been . . .Keywords
