Alterations in Circulating Platelets Following Administration of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone

Abstract
After admn. of 50 to 100 mg. ACTH intramusc. to 19 normal individuals there was a temporary significant decrease of platelets in the peripheral blood. This fall reached 60% of normal 3 hrs. after injn. This decrease was more rapid and less sustained than the coexistent eosinophil decrease. Platelets returned to normal in 12-24 hrs. A similar thrombocytopenia was observed following admn. of ACTH to an individual with no spleen.
