Kinetics of Human Complement

Abstract
Summary: A serum factor involved in the terminal, cation-independent stage of immune hemolysis is inactivated by hydrazine. The reaction kinetics favor a bimolecular mechanism for the inactivation. The reaction exhibits no Ca++ or Mg++ requirements and the rate is independent of ionic strength. The activation energy has been determined and the effect of pH investigated. The evidence indicates that the hydrazine reacts in the form of uncharged, free base. The inactivating properties of certain other reagents have been noted and discussed.
