Abstract
This syndrome is defined in patients with X-ray negative "dyspepsia" with discomfort, flatulence and sometimes quite severe pain, particularly after food; marked overactivity of the colon and exceptionally high pressures in the sigmoid colon also occur. Movement of feces is paradoxically slowed by this abnormal smooth muscle reaction. This syndrome is a type of spastic colon. Keywords
