Abstract
In acute myocardial infarction complicated by left ventricular failure, knowledge of the left ventricular filling pressure is required for the proper evaluation of myocardial performance and choice of therapy. Intermittent measurement of this pressure will allow anticipation of the development of pulmonary edema, optimal volume support in low-flow-lowpressure states, and continuous assessment of the hemodynamic effects of traditional and more recent therapeutic interventions.
