Abstract
Sixty-three cases of extraintestinal amoebiasis, 17 cases of intestinal amoebiasis and 25 selected control persons were examined for serum antibodies to antigen from 6 Entamoeba histolytica using counter-immunoelectrophoresis, complement fixation, indirect hemagglutination and latex agglutination. In addition counter-immunoelectrophoresis was applied to 41 sera from patients with extraintestinal amoebiasis whose other serological results were included in a previous study. Even with the 4 immunological methods, the test results can be used for diagnostic purposes only when they are in accordance with the clinical picture and the exposure. Complete failures of the immunodiagnostic tests did not occur. There were persons with no symptoms in amoebiasis who had antibodies in 2 tests. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
