Abstract
In 1905 I described1two cases of arthritis deformans coxae juvenilis whose chief clinical interest lay in the impossibility, at that time, of distinguishing them from adolescent coxa vara without the aid of the Roentgen plate. They were the first cases of the kind reported in this country, and the examination of the roentgenograms made it evident that we were dealing with deforming disease of the hip which must have been in existence for a long time and with whose early clinical phase we were totally unfamiliar. In both instances we were dealing with intelligent patients coming from excellent social environment, and it would be only fair to presume that we might rely on the accuracy of their statements with reference to the indefinite character of the symptoms which were present in the early stages of the disease.
